What information is essential in set-up to make the most of the tool?

The software is a powerful tool for analysing your building energy use. To make sure you are making the most of your subscription there are some key pieces of information that should be completed when you set up your building(s).

To edit any of the following, go to Settings > Buildings. Select the building and click on the pencil icon next to the piece of information you want to edit, and don't forget to save your changes. An overview of the essential elements can be found here and you may visit the FAQs for more detailed information relating to floor area, the weather stations and building type etc.

1) Floor area of your building
A number of calculations in the software are based on energy consumption per metre squared, so it is important that we know your building's floor area to make these calculations. Without this information, you will be unable to use the benchmarking and energy rating tools accurately.
See here to read more about floor area.

2) Building type
You need to select a building type category in order for your A-G energy performance benchmark rating to be calculated in the tool. Your rating informs you how your building energy performance compares to other similar buildings.

3) Weather station
We use information about your local weather conditions to calculate how efficiently you are heating your building, so it is important to select the closest weather station to each building you are energy monitoring.
